James Horwill will captain the Wallabies for the first time following last week’s Wallaby World Cup squad announcement. Rocky Elsom, who lost the captaincy has retained his place at number six.

Australian full-back Drew Mitchell could make a remarkable return to action in time for the World Cup next month. The Waratah’s man suffered a horrific ankle break just four months ago, but could be in line to return to the Australian set-up in time for their World Cup campaign after a determined and speedy recovery.

Wallabies coach Robbie Deans has named a forty man squad to contest the 2011 Tri Nations against the New Zealand All Blacks and the South African Springboks.

In recognition of the Super Rugby winning season the Wallaby squad contains 15 Reds players. Last night in Christchurch Ma’a Nonu became the 35th player to play 50 tests for the All Blacks. It’s an amazing achievement for a player with such a chequered history with the black jersey.
