Springbok and Wallaby teams named for first Tri Nations Test 2011

Australia and South Africa have announced their teams to contest the first test of the 2011 Tri-Nations at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Saturday. The Wallaby team that dramatically lost to Samoa this weekend has been overhauled, including the dropping of Wallaby-stalwart Matt Giteau.

Meanwhile, South Africa, who have sensationally left 21 of their top players at home have named 4 new caps in their side for Saturday. Werner Kruger, Dean Greyling and Ashley Johnson are set to make their test debuts, with scrumhalf Charl McLeod coming off the bench.

The 2010 Tri-Nations was won by the New Zealand All Blacks, who won an unprecedented 6 games, giving them a 100% success rate for the tournament. The Australian Wallabies came second with 2 wins, both against the Springboks. The South African Springboks won just once, at home against the Wallabies.

Crusaders and Waratahs storm into Semi Finals

The Crusaders and Waratahs have convincingly won their virtual quarter finals and the Hurricanes’ and Brumbies’ seasons are over.

The Crusaders scored 40 points to the Brumbies’ 22. Sean Maitland, Kieran Read, Owen Franks, Richie McCaw and Zac Guildford scored tries for the Crusaders. Dan Carter had an off night with the boot but still kicked 4 conversions and 3 penalties. Tyrone Smith, Ben Alexander and Huia Edmonds scored tries for the Brumbies, with Matt Giteau kicking 2 conversions and 1 penalty.
