The All Blacks have named their team to face the Springboks at Port Elizabeth for their second 2011 Tri-Nations test

As expected from the squad that travelled to South Africa, the All Blacks have made whole sale changes to the team that defeated the Wallabies in Auckland. There are only four survivors from that starting team.

In his 85th test Keven Mealamu will captain the team for the second time from hooker. Sonny Bill Williams and Richard Kahui partner in the midfield for the first time.

There have been seven changes to the All Black side that destroyed the Springboks at Eden Park last week. The forwards, particularly the front row have a significantly different look. Keven Mealamu, Owen Franks, Brad Thorn and Kieran Read all return to make their first start of 2011. After a grueling Super Rugby tournament, those players have been rested to ready themselves for the big year ahead. Ali Williams retains his spot for his third consecutive test after three years in the injury enforced wilderness.

New Zealand head coach Graham Henry has criticised New Zealand based players who have opted to move overseas after being lured by lucrative contracts – at the expense of their place in the national side.

Recently, veteran hooker Keven Mealamu committed his future to the national side after signing a contract extension with Super Rugby franchise the Blues and the NZRU, but Henry admitted he was “irritated” by younger players on the fringe of the national squad who forsake their chance to wear the All Black shirt for money, and believes younger players have time to play abroad…
