Head-Coach Steve Hansen released his first All Blacks squad since assuming the top job this week, and while those selected were said to be part of the first ‘Training Squad’ of the year, there is much this squad says about the mind-set of Hansen and his coaching staff, and their vision for the future.
While there are plenty of recognizable faces in the 35 names read out today the side is very much Hansen’s own, and deviates in many ways from the sides put together by Graham Henry. Although battling Blues’ players Piri Weepu and Ali Williams have retained their…

FranceRugby

FranceRugby is governed by the French Rugby Federation, FFR Rugby. However, FranceRugby is more than just rugby union in France, it is the style, temperament, success and failure that has become synonymous with the beauty of French rugby. FranceRugby can be the famous ‘try from the end of the world’ that Jean-Luc Sadourny scored against the All Blacks, or FranceRugby can be a club team purposely putting the kick off out on the full so the two scrums can go at each other, or it can be the French team losing by 40 points to the All Blacks …

The All Black: A Novel by Nicholas Sheppard

Hi guys,
wanted to tell you I’ve just finished reading a wonderful novel by Nicholas Sheppard, on Amazon, called The All Black, which really gets into the psyche of All Black rugby, and the aura of playing for the black jersey, across several generations. I thought since the All Blacks are riding so high right now, in the wake of the epic cup victory, some of you guys, or people checking out your sight might be keen to get into it and enjoy it as much as I have.
Ta,

New Zealand head coach Graham Henry has hinted he would be willing to work with the RFU and England after stepping down from his role with the All Blacks following their 8-7 win over France in the World Cup Final.

Henry is widely believed to be preparing to leave his post with the All Blacks after guiding them to World Cup glory for the first time in 24 years, while England stuttered to defeat in the quarter finals against Les Blues, with head coach Martin Johnson coming under intense pressure to step down from his position following a string of …

The New Zealand All Blacks have won the 2011 Rugby World Cup, triumphing in a gripping but low scoring final against France 8 to 7. The match up mirrored the inaugural 1987 Rugby World Cup final, also played at Auckland’s Eden Park. Interestingly, the bronze final match up was the same as the 1987 version, but this time Australia emerged victorious. Apart from the rematch, the 2011 final will be remembered as being far different to the 1987 final which New Zealand ran away with 29 to 9. We will never know what might have happened had Piri Weepu, apparently …
