Six Nations Results and Highlights Round Three 2012

Rugby results and highlights for round three of the 2012 Six Nations

The 2012 Six Nations passed the halfway point with a resounding victory and two nail biters. Ireland took the frustration of the previous round’s debacle on a hapless Italy. Ireland were fortunate to win at a canter, as they have the unenviable task of playing four Six Nations matches in four weeks, due to the rescheduling of their France test to next weekend. France were not so lucky, having to dig deep to fight off a spirited and desperate Scotland at Murrayfield.

The game of the round was surely Wales versus England at Twickenham. Despite being favourites to win the clash, Wales had to overcome over twenty years of history in order to triumph at Twickenham. The England team refused to cooperate
also, and the game was ties at 12 each with nine minutes to go. A piece of individual brilliance by replacement back Scott Williams sealed the game for Wales as he ripped the ball from Courtney Lawes and chipped and regathered to score under the posts.

The victory seals the triple crown for Wales as well as 5th on the IRB world rankings table. However, it also consigned England to 6th on the table, dropping down one place. They may take some solace from the showing of their rookie number ten, Owen Farrell. He looked assured during the game, kicking all of England’s points.
