RugbyFix Picks: Super Rugby Round Two 2012

The local derbies continue in round two of the 2012 Super Rugby competition. It begins with the battle of the Auckland Southern Motorway with the Chiefs hosting the Blues. This match up is always a vicious affair, with the Chiefs wanting to take it to their big brothers the Blues. However, after the Chiefs’ injuries from round one, the Blues go into the match as favourites.

Not as juicy as last week’s Reds v Waratahs clash, but the Rebels v Waratahs could also produce some fireworks. It is the Rebels’ first game of the tournament and their fans will be anxious to see how their off-season acquisitions will go. The Highlanders host the Crusaders in the first Super Rugby match at the new Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin. Both teams had to fight for their wins last weekend and have momentum going into the game. However, as always the Crusaders will be clear favourites. Just as last weekend and last season the Highlanders are happy to wear the underdog tag, but will not go down without a fight.

Other local derbies this weekend are the Reds v Western Force, Cheetahs v Bulls and Stormers v Sharks. The Reds and Bulls will be expecting victories, but the Stormers will have to fight for theirs. The Hurricanes will need a dramatic improvement across the park, particularly in the set piece if they are to match the Lions in Johannesburg.
