The games so far have largely been close affairs, but there were signs of a few blow outs in round two. RugbyFix believes this trend is going to grow, with some big scorelines coming for round three of Super Rugby 2012. However, as always in Super Rugby, most of the teams can all beat each other on their day, so there are sure to be a few banana peels.
The Chiefs showed some form last week against the Blues, but may find themselves walking into a buzz-saw on Friday night in Napier. The Crusaders will be reeling from their loss to the Highlanders, and this is one team who tend not to lose twice in a row. They have reinstated their All Black front row and will be targeting the Chief’s inexperienced but huge Ben Tameifuna (see round three team announcements). The Brumbies and Cheetahs and the Western Force and Hurricanes have all shown average form so far this year, so those games will be interesting to see who can turn their early season form around. Like last year, most pundits will be expecting the Highlanders form to slip soon, but the Waratahs will probably find out the Highlanders still have more in the tank at this stage.
The blow out of the round could be the Rebels versus the Reds, with the Reds hot favourites to win by a landslide. If form stays true, the Sharks v Lions should go the same way with the Sharks winning at a canter. The Bulls host the Blues in what in most years should be an epic encounter, However, the Blues have shown nothing despite their all star line up this year. They have also had to left star players Jerome Kaino and Rudi Wulf back in New Zealand. Former Hurricane and World Cup stars Ma’a Nonu and Piri Weepu start for their new franchise for the first time.
