Romania Rugby World Cup 2011 Squad

Marius Tincu will captain Romania from the front row at the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. They have announced their 30 man squad, which consists of 16 forwards and 14 backs. Romania have competed at every Rugby World Cup, scoring one victory each tournament, except for 1995 when they went winless.

Four-time Romania World Cup veteran Romeo Gontineac now coaches the team. He will be hoping to get valuable local knowledge from former All Black and assistant coach Steve McDowall. McDowall was a member of the victorious 1987 World Cup winning team, also played in New Zealand.

Romania will compete in Pool B of the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Pool B is made up of Scotland, Argentina, Georgia, Romania and England. Romania and Scotland begin their campaign in Invercargill on 10 September.

The big match for Romania will be when they play neighbours Georgia in Palmerston North on the 28 September. It will be both teams most realistic chance of a victory at the tournament.

Forwards: Stelian Burcea, Daniel Carpo, Nicolae Dragos Dima, Silviu Florea, Daniel Ianus, Paulica Ion, Mihaita Lazar, Mihai Macovei, Nicolae Nere, Cristian Petre, Valentin Poparlan, Cosmin Ratiu, Marius Tincu, Ovidiu Tonita, Valentin Ursache, Bogdan Zebega.

Backs: Valentin Calafeteanu, Ionel Cazan, Stefan Ciuntu, Ionut Dimofte, Danut Dumbrava, Iulian Dumitras, Catalin Fercu, Csaba Gal, Constantin Gheara, Madalin Lemnaru, Catalin Nicolae, Lucian Sirbu, Florin Surugiu, Florin Vlaicu.
