Italy Rugby World Cup 2011 Squad

Sergio Parisse will captain Italy at the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand while Prop Andrea Lo Cicero has been named to play at his fourth Rugby World Cup. Omissions include Alberto de Marchi, Joshua, Furno Valerio, Bernabò, Manoa Vosawai, Kris Burton and Andrea Pratichetti.

South African Nick Mallett will coach the Italy at the tournament. He will be replaced by Jacques Brunel at the conclusion of the World Cup.

Italy are in pool C along with Australia, USA, Ireland and Russia. Italy opens their 2011 Rugby World Cup campaign against Australia on at North Harbour Stadium Auckland on Sunday September 11 at 15.30. Italy will likely need to beat Ireland if they are to have any hope of reaching their first quarter finals. They will be hoping Ireland’s poor form in the warm up matches follow through into the tournament.
