Deacon Manu will captain Fiji at the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. It will be a return home for Manu, who was a Waikato and Chiefs stalwart for a number of years. Since leaving in 1996 he has played over a hundred games for the Scarlets in Wales. The Fiji squad features 21 overseas based players, meaning that the bulk of the squad are full time professionals.
Fiji lock Leone Nakawara has received a dispensation to travel to New Zealand having resigned from the Fijian army. New Zealand has travel restrictions for people serving or connected to the Fiji military.
Sam Domoni is the current Fiji rugby team coach.
Fiji are in pool D along with South Africa, Wales, Namibia and Samoa, one of the toughest pools following the good form of Fiji and Samoa this year. Fiji opens their 2011 Rugby World Cup campaign against Namibia on Saturday the 10th of September at 3:30pm at Rotorua International Stadium in Rotorua.
