England’s new coach, albeit on a temporary basis, Stuart Lancaster, has outlined his manifesto for the reform of the national side, noting that players who lack a particular “character and talent” will be shown the door. The 42-year-old added that the focus will be on young players, when the time comes to select England’s Six Nations squad, in 2012..

Lancaster, who is joined in the England camp by fellow coaches, Graham Rowntree and Andy Farrell, said that, by the end of the Six Nations, England will hopefully be on “very strong foundations”, in preparation for the arrival…

Ronan O’Gara makes 100th Heineken Cup rugby appearance.

Munster stalwart Ronan O’Gara made his 100th Heineken Cup appearance when he played against the Scarlets on Saturday, becoming only the second player ever to do so. It’s not the first time he made the headlines during this Heineken Cup rugby season; O’Gara got his season off to a fantastic start when he secured Munster victories in the Heineken Cup fixtures against Northampton Saints and Castres Olympique with last gasp drop goals.

Former Italy and South Africa coach Nick Mallett has revealed that he will not be considered as Martin Johnson’s replacement as England team manager.

Johnson stepped down from leading the men in England Rugby Shirts this week after reviewing his position following a disappointing World Cup campaign and Mallett was one of a number of names linked as his successor.

However, he has ruled himself out of the running, despite admitting he was intrigued enough to speak to the RFU about the position.

He said: “I was interested to hear what the RFU had to say.…
