Brian O’Driscoll to miss 2012 Six Nations
O’Driscoll’s record breaking international rugby career started back in 1999 and he has gone on to gain 117 test caps for Ireland and 6 times for the British and Irish Lions. Brian O’Driscoll has played in three Rugby World Cups and the last three British and Irish Lions tours. He was also captain of the 2005 British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand, but was injured in the opening minutes of the first test after a controversial ruck clear out by Tana Umaga and Keven Mealamu had him dropped on his shoulder. He stayed on us a non-playing squad captain, but the event tainted the much anticipated New Zealand tour.
O’Driscoll has also played 151 times for Ireland rugby club Leinster and scored 271 points for them. Brian O’Driscoll will also miss the Heineken Cup Rugby season (click here for 2011/2012 Heineken Cup Fixtures).
Inspirational stalwart Paul O’Connell will captain the Ireland rugby team in O’Driscoll’s absence.

I think it’s a sad state of affairs when the Irish fans are declaring Ireland’s Six Nations campaign over simply because a single player is out for the tournament. Is the Irish squad really that brittle?
Which Irish fans are these? I think we will cope just fine without him and are probably second favourites for the championship. It’s always tough losing a player of his calibre but there is plenty of young talent coming through. Our provinces are riding high in the Heineken Cup. The only question now is whether Declan Kidney and his staff can fashion victories out of that.
Careful with your generalisations.
